prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule
by their means; and my people love [to have it
] so: and what
will ye do in the end thereof?
Jeremiah 6:13 For
from the least of them even unto the greatest of them every one [is
] given to covetousness; and
from the prophet even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
Therefore will I
give their wives unto others, [and
] their fields to them that shall inherit [them
every one from the least even unto the greatest is given to covetousness, from the prophet
even unto the priest every one dealeth falsely.
] a conspiracy
of her prophets in the midst thereof, like
a roaring lion ravening
the prey; they have devoured
souls; they have taken the treasure and precious things; they have made her many widows in the midst thereof. ... Therefore have I poured
out mine indignation upon them; I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath: their own
way have I recompensed upon their heads, saith the Lord GOD.
And as troops
of robbers wait for a man, [so]
the company of priests murder in the way by consent
: for they commit lewdness
thereof judge for reward, and the priests
thereof teach for hire, and the prophets
thereof divine for money: yet
will they lean upon the LORD, and say
] not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
] is perished out of the earth: and [there is
] none upright among men: they all
lie in wait for blood; they hunt
every man his brother with a net. ... That they may do
evil with both hands earnestly, the prince
asketh, and the judge [asketh
] for a reward; and the great
], he uttereth his mischievous desire
: so they wrap it up.
Woe to her that is filthy
and polluted, to the
oppressing city! ... Her prophets [are
] treacherous persons: her priests
have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.
But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This
is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. ... And they caught
him, and cast
] out of the vineyard, and slew
together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace
of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas
, ... And consulted
that they might take Jesus by
subtilty, and kill [him
And said [unto them
will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty
pieces of silver.

took counsel together for to put
him to death.
And when it was day, certain
of the Jews banded together, and bound
themselves under a curse
, saying that
they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. ... Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he
bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.
