David’s Kindness to Mephibosheth

1 Then David° said°, “Is there° yet° Ianyone° left° of the house° of Saul°, athat I may show° him kindness° for Jonathan’s° sake°?” 2 Now there was a servant° of the house° of Saul° whose name° was Ziba°, and they called° him to David°; and the king° said° to him, “Are you aZiba°?” And he said°, “[I am] your servant°.” 3 The king° said°, “Is there° not yet° anyone° of the house° of Saul° to whom I may show° the akindness° of God°?” And Ziba° said° to the king°, “bThere is still° a son° of Jonathan° who is crippled° in both feet°.” 4 So the king° said° to him, “Where° is he?” And Ziba° said° to the king°, “Behold°, he is ain the house° of Machir° the son° of Ammiel° in Lo-debar°.” 5 Then King° David° sent° and brought° him from the house° of Machir° the son° of Ammiel°, from Lo-debar°. 6 aMephibosheth°, the son° of Jonathan° the son° of Saul°, came° to David° and bfell° on his face° and prostrated° himself. And David° said°, “Mephibosheth°.” And he said°, “Here° is your servant°!” 7 David° said° to him, “Do not fear°, for aI will surely° show° kindness° to you for the sake° of your father° Jonathan°, and bwill restore° to you all° the Iland° of your IIgrandfather° Saul°; and cyou shall IIIeat° at my table° regularly°.” 8 Again he prostrated° himself and said°, “What° is your servant°, that you should regard° aa dead° dog° like° me?”

9 ¶ Then the king° called° Saul’s° servant° Ziba° and said° to him, “aAll° that belonged° to Saul° and to all° his house° I have given° to your master’s° Igrandson°. 10 You and your sons° and your servants° shall cultivate° the land° for him, and you shall bring° in [the produce] so that your master’s° grandson° may have° food°; nevertheless aMephibosheth° your master’s° grandson° bshall Ieat° at my table° regularly°.” Now Ziba° had fifteen°° sons° and twenty° servants°. 11 Then Ziba° said° to the king°, “According ato all° that my lord° the king° commands° his servant° so° your servant° will do°.” So Mephibosheth° ate° at IDavid’s table° as one° of the king’s° sons°. 12 Mephibosheth° had a young° son° whose name° was Mica°. And all° who lived° in the house° of Ziba° were servants° to Mephibosheth°. 13 So Mephibosheth° lived° in Jerusalem°, for ahe ate° at the king’s° table° regularly°. Now bhe was lame° in both° feet°.

1 ¶ And Davidº said,ºª Is there² yet¹² any² that is leftºª of the houseº of Saul,º that I may shewºª² him kindnessº for Jonathan's¹² sake?² 2 And [there was] of the houseº of Saulº a servantº whose nameº [was] Ziba.º And when they had calledºª him unto² David,º the kingº saidºª unto² him, [Art] thou² Ziba?º And he said,ºª Thy servantº [is he]. 3 And the kingº said,ºª [Is] there notº yet² anyº of the houseº of Saul,º that I may shewºª the kindnessº of Godº unto² him? And Zibaº saidºª unto² the king,º Jonathanº hath yet² a son,º [which is] lameº on [his] feet.º 4 And the kingº saidºª unto him, Whereº [is] he?² And Zibaº saidºª unto² the king,º Behold,² he² [is] in the houseº of Machir,º the sonº of Ammiel,º in Lodebar.º

5 ¶ Then kingº Davidº sent,ºª and fetchedºª him out of the houseº² of Machir,º the sonº of Ammiel,º from Lodebar.º² 6 Now when Mephibosheth,º the sonº of Jonathan,º the sonº of Saul,º was comeºª unto² David,º he fellºª on² his face,º and did reverence.ºª And Davidº said,ºª Mephibosheth.º And he answered,ºª Behold² thy servant!º

7 ¶ And Davidº saidºª unto him, Fearºª not:² for² I will surely¹ª shewºª² thee kindnessº for Jonathanº thy father'sº sake,² and will restoreºª thee² all² the landº of Saulº thy father;º and thou² shalt eatºª breadº at² my tableº continually.º 8 And he bowed¹ª himself,² and said,ºª What² [is] thy servant,º that² thou shouldest lookºª upon² such² a deadºª dogº as I² [am]?

9 ¶ Then the kingº calledºª to² Ziba,º Saul'sº servant,º and saidºª unto² him, I have givenºª unto thy master'sº sonº all² that² pertainedºª to Saulº and to all² his house.º 10 Thou² therefore, and thy sons,º and thy servants,º shall tillºª² the landº for him, and thou shalt bringºª in [the fruits], that thy master'sº sonº may have² foodº to eat:ºª but Mephiboshethº thy master'sº sonº shall eatºª breadº alwayº at² my table.º Now Zibaº had fifteenºº sonsº and twentyº servants.º 11 Then saidºª Zibaº unto² the king,º According to all² that² my lordº the kingº hath commandedºª² his servant,º so² shall thy servantº do.ºª As for Mephibosheth,º [said the king], he shall eatºª at² my table,º as oneº of the king's¹ sons.º²² 12 And Mephiboshethº had a youngº son,º whose nameº [was] Micha.º And all² that dweltº in the houseº of Zibaº [were] servantsº unto Mephibosheth.º 13 So Mephiboshethº dweltºª in Jerusalem:º for² he² did eatºª continuallyº at² the king'sº table;º and was lameº on bothº his feet.º
