God Abases the Proud, but Exalts the Righteous.

For the choir director; [set to] Al-tashheth. A Psalm of Asaph, a Song.

  1 We agive thanks to You, O God, we give thanks,
  For Your name is bnear;
  Men declare cYour wondrous works.
  2 “When I select an aappointed time,
  It is I who bjudge with equity.
  3 “The aearth and all who dwell in it Imelt;
  It is I who have firmly set its bpillars.
      IISelah.
  4 “I said to the boastful, ‘Do not boast,’
  And to the wicked, ‘aDo not lift up the horn;
  5 Do not lift up your horn on high,
  aDo not speak with insolent Ipride.’”

  6 ¶ For not from the east, nor from the west,
  Nor from the Iadesert [comes] exaltation;
  7 But aGod is the Judge;
  He bputs down one and exalts another.
  8 For a acup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine foams;
  It is Ibwell mixed, and He pours out of this;
  Surely all the wicked of the earth must drain [and] cdrink down its dregs.

2 When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly. 3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

4 I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn: 5 Lift not up your horn on high: speak [not with] a stiff neck. 6 For promotion [cometh] neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. 7 But God [is] the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another. 8 For in the hand of the LORD [there is] a cup, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he poureth out of the same: but the dregs thereof, all the wicked of the earth shall wring [them] out, [and] drink [them].
