The Prophet’s Call

1 Then He said° to me, “Son° of man°, astand° on your feet° that I may speak° with you!” 2 As He spoke° to me the aSpirit° entered° me and set° me on my feet°; and I heard° [Him] speaking° to me. 3 Then He said° to me, “Son° of man°, I am sending° you to the sons° of Israel°, to a rebellious° people° who° have arebelled° against Me; bthey and their fathers° have transgressed° against Me to this° very° day°. 4 I am sending° you to them who are Iastubborn°° and obstinate°° children°, and you shall say° to them, ‘Thus° says° the Lord° IIGOD°.’ 5 As for them, awhether° they listen° or° Inot—for they are a rebellious° house°—they will bknow° that a prophet° has been° among° them. 6 And you, son° of man°, aneither° fear° them nor° fear° their words°, though° bthistles° and thorns° are with you and you sit° on scorpions°; neither° fear° their words° nor° be dismayed° at their presence°, for they are a rebellious° house°. 7 But you shall aspeak° My words° to them bwhether° they listen° or° Inot, for they are rebellious°.

8 ¶ “Now you, son° of man°, listen° to what° I am speaking° to you; do not be rebellious° like that rebellious° house°. Open° your mouth° and aeat° what° I am giving° you.” 9 Then I looked°, and behold°, a ahand° was extended° to me; and lo°, a Ibscroll°° [was] in it. 10 When He spread° it out before° me, it was written° on the front° and back°, and written° on it were lamentations°, mourning° and awoe°.

6 ¶ And thou,² sonº of man,º be not afraidºª² of² them, neither² be afraidºª of their words,º² though² briersº and thornsº [be] with² thee, and thou² dost dwellºª among² scorpions:º be not afraidºª² of their words,º² nor² be dismayedºª at their looks,º² though² they² [be] a rebelliousº house.º 7 And thou shalt speakºª² my wordsº unto² them, whether² they will hear,ºª or whether² they will forbear:ºª for² they² [are] most rebellious.º 8 But thou,² sonº of man,º hearºª² what² I² sayºª unto² thee; Be² not¹ª² thou rebelliousº like that rebelliousº house:º openºª thy mouth,º and eatºª² that² I² giveºª² thee.
