Isaiah’s Vision

1 In the year° of aKing° Uzziah’s° death° bI saw° the Lord° sitting° on a throne°, lofty° and exalted°, with the train° of His robe° filling° the temple°. 2 Seraphim° stood° above° Him, aeach° having six° wings°: with two° he covered° his face°, and with two° he covered° his feet°, and with two° he flew°. 3 And one° called° out to another° and said°,
  “aHoly°, Holy°, Holy°, is the LORD° of hosts°,
  The Ibwhole° earth° is full° of His glory°.”
4 And the Ifoundations° of the thresholds° trembled° at the voice° of him who called° out, while the IIatemple° was filling° with smoke°. 5 Then I said°,
  “aWoe° is me, for I am ruined°!
  Because° I am a man° of bunclean° lips°,
  And I live° among° a cpeople° of unclean° lips°;
  For my eyes° have seen° the dKing°, the LORD° of hosts°.”

6 ¶ Then one° of the seraphim° flew° to me with a burning° coal° in his hand°, which he had taken° from the aaltar° with tongs°. 7 He atouched° my mouth° [with it] and said°, “Behold°, this° has touched° your lips°; and byour iniquity° is taken° away° and your sin° is Iforgiven°.”

8 Then I heard° the avoice° of the Lord°, saying°, “Whom° shall I send°, and who° will go° for Us?” Then bI said°, “Here° am I. Send° me!” 9 He said°, “Go°, and tell° this° people°:
  ‘Keep° on alistening°, but do not perceive°;
  Keep° on looking°, but do not understand°.’
  10aRender° the hearts° of this° people° Ibinsensitive°,
  Their ears° IIdull°,
  And their eyes° IIIdim°,
  cOtherwise° they might see° with their eyes°,
  Hear° with their ears°,
  Understand° with their hearts°,
  And return° and be healed°.”
11 Then I said°, “Lord°, ahow° long°°?” And He answered°,
  “Until°°° bcities° are devastated° [and] without° inhabitant°,
  Houses° are without° people°
  And the land° is utterly° desolate°,
  12 “The LORD° has aremoved° men° far° away,
  And the Ibforsaken° places° are many° in the midst° of the land°.
  13 “Yet° there will be a tenth° portion° in it,
  And it will again° be [subject] to burning°,
  Like a terebinth° or an aoak°
  Whose° stump° remains when° it is felled°.
  The bholy° seed° is its stump°.”

being terrified, is confirmed for his message.

5 ¶ Then saidºª I, Woeº [is] me! for² I am undone;ºª because² I² [am] a manº of uncleanº lips,º and I² dwellºª in the midstº of a peopleº of uncleanº lips:º for² mine eyesº have seenºª² the King,º the LORDº of hosts.º 6 Then flewºª oneº of² the seraphimsº unto² me, having a live coalº in his hand,º [which] he had takenºª with the tongsº from off²² the altar:º 7 And he laidºª [it] upon² my mouth,º and said,ºª Lo,² this² hath touchedºª² thy lips;º and thine iniquityº is taken away,ºª and thy sinº purged.ºª 8 Also I heardºª² the voiceº of the Lord,º saying,ºª² Whom² shall I send,ºª and who² will go¹ª² for us? He sheweth the obstinacy of the people unto their desolation.

9 ¶ And he said,ºª Go,¹ª² and tellºª this² people,º Hear¹ª ye indeed,ºª but understandºª not;² and see¹ª ye indeed,ºª but perceiveºª not.² 10 Make the heartº of this² peopleº fat,¹ª² and make their earsº heavy,ºª and shutºª their eyes;º lest² they seeºª with their eyes,º and hearºª with their ears,º and understandºª with their heart,º and convert,ºª and be healed.ºª 11 Then saidºª I, Lord,º how long?²² And he answered,ºª Until²² the citiesº be wastedºª without²² inhabitant,ºª and the housesº without²² man,º and the landº be utterlyº desolate,ºª 12 And the LORDº have removed¹ª men¹ far away,ºª²² and [there be] a greatº forsakingº in the midstº of the land.º
