The Day of Pentecost

Whom Peter disproving, and shewing that the aspostles spake by the power of the Holy Ghost, that Jesus was risen from the dead, ascended into heaven, had poured down the same Holy Ghost, and was the Messias, a man known to them to be approved of God by his miracles, wonders, and signs, and not crucified without his determinate counsel and foreknowledge:

14 ¶ Butº Peter,º standing upºª withº the² eleven,º lifted upºª his¹² voice,º andº saidºª unto them,º Ye menº of Judaea,º andº allº [ye] that dwellºª at Jerusalem,º beºª thisº knownº unto you,º andº hearkenºª to myº words:º 15 Forº theseº are¹ª notº drunken,ºª asº yeº suppose,ºª seeingº it isºª [but] the thirdº hourº of the² day.º 16 Butº thisº isºª that which was spokenºª byº the² prophetº Joel;º 17 Andº it shall come to passºª inº the² lastº days,º saithºª God,º I will pour outºª ofº myº Spiritº uponº allº flesh:º andº yourº sonsº andº yourº daughtersº shall prophesy,ºª andº yourº young menº shall seeºª visions,º andº yourº old menº shall dream¹² dreams:¹ª² 18 Andºº onº myº servantsº andº onº myº handmaidensº I will pour outºª inº thoseº daysº ofº myº Spirit;º andº they shall prophesy:ºª 19 Andº I will shewºª wondersº inº heavenº above,º andº signsº inº the² earthº beneath;º blood,º andº fire,º andº vapourº of smoke:º 20 The² sunº shall be turnedºª intoº darkness,º andº the² moonº intoº blood,º beforeº¹ that² greatº andº notableº dayº of the Lordº come:ºª 21 Andº it shall come to pass,ºª [that] whosoeverººº shall call onºª the² nameº of the Lordº shall be saved.ºª 22 Ye menº of Israel,º hearºª theseº words;º Jesusº of Nazareth,º a manº approvedºª ofº Godº amongº youº by miraclesº andº wondersº andº signs,º whichº Godº didºª byº himº inº the midstº of you,º asº ye² yourselves¹ alsoº know:ºª 23 Him,º being deliveredº by the² determinateºª counselº andº foreknowledgeº of God,º ye have taken,ºª and byº wickedº handsº have crucifiedºª and slain:ºª 24 Whomº Godº hath raised up,ºª having loosedºª the² painsº of death:º becauseº it wasºª notº possibleº that heº should be holdenºª ofº it.º 25 Forº Davidº speakethºª concerningº him,º I foresawºª the² Lordº alwaysºº beforeº my¹ face,² forº he isºª onº myº right hand,º that¹ª² I should¹ª not¹² be moved:ºª 26 Thereforeºº did¹ª myº heartº rejoice,ºª andº myº tongueº was glad;ºª moreoverºº alsoº myº fleshº shall restºª inº hope:º 27 Becauseº thou wilt¹ª notº leaveºª myº soulº inº hell,º neitherº wilt thou sufferºª thineº Holy Oneº to seeºª corruption.º 28 Thou hast made knownºª to meº the waysº of life;º thou shalt make¹ª me¹ fullºª² of joyº withº thyº countenance.º 29 Menº [and] brethren,º let¹ª² me¹ª freelyºº speakºª untoº youº ofº the² patriarchº David,º thatº he is¹ª both¹ deadºª² andº buried,ºª andº hisº sepulchreº isºª withº usº untoº thisº day.º 30 Thereforeº beingºª a prophet,º andº knowingºª thatº Godº had swornºª with an oathº to him,º that ofº the fruitº of hisº loins,º according toº the flesh,º he would raise upºª Christº to sitºª onº hisº throne;º 31 He seeing this beforeºª spakeºª ofº the² resurrectionº of Christ,º thatº hisº soulº was¹ª notº leftºª inº hell,º neitherº hisº fleshº did seeºª corruption.º 32 Thisº Jesusº hath¹ª Godº raised up,ºª whereofº weº allº areºª witnesses.º 33 Thereforeº being¹ª by the² right handº of Godº exalted,ºª andº having receivedºª ofº the² Fatherº the² promiseº of the² Holyº Ghost,º he hath shed forthºª this,º whichº yeº nowº seeºª andº hear.ºª 34 Forº Davidº is notº ascendedºª intoº the² heavens:º butº he² saithºª himself,¹ The² LORDº saidºª unto myº Lord,º Sit² thou¹ª onº myº right hand,º 35 Untilº I makeººª thyº foesº thy¹ footstool.ºº² 36 Thereforeº let¹ª allº the houseº of Israelº knowºª assuredly,º thatº Godº hath madeºª that sameº Jesus,º whomº yeº have crucified,ºª bothº Lordº andº Christ.º
