  2 ¶ Thus° says° the LORD°,
  “The people° who° survived° the sword°
  aFound° grace° in the wilderness°

Rahel mourning is comforted.

15 ¶ Thus² saithºª the LORD;º A voiceº was heardºª in Ramah,º lamentation,º [and] bitterº weeping;º Rahelº weepingºª for² her childrenº refusedºª to be comfortedºª for² her children,º because² they [were] not.² 16 Thus² saithºª the LORD;º Refrainºª thy voiceº from weeping,º² and thine eyesº from tears:º² for² thy workº shall beº rewarded,º saithºª the LORD;º and they shall come againºª from the landº² of the enemy.ºª 17 And there isº hopeº in thine end,º saithºª the LORD,º that thy childrenº shall come againºª to their own border.º

Ephraim repenting is brought home again.

18 ¶ I have surely¹ª heardºª Ephraimº bemoaning¹ª himself² [thus]; Thou hast chastisedºª me, and I was chastised,ºª as a bullockº unaccustomedººª [to the yoke]: turnºª thou me, and I shall be turned;ºª for² thou² [art] the LORDº my God.º 19 Surely² after¹ that² I was turned,ºª I repented;ºª and after¹ that² I was instructed,ºª I smoteºª upon² [my] thigh:º I was ashamed,ºª yea, even² confounded,ºª because² I did bearºª the reproachº of my youth.º 20 [Is] Ephraimº my dearº son?º [is he] a pleasantº child?º for² sinceº² I spakeºª against him, I do earnestly¹ª rememberºª him still:² therefore²² my bowelsº are troubledºª for him; I will surely¹ª have mercyºª upon him, saithºª the LORD.º 21 Set thee upºª waymarks,º makeºª thee high heaps:º setºª thine heartº toward the highway,º [even] the wayº [which] thou wentest:ºª turn again,ºª O virginº of Israel,º turn againºª to² these² thy cities.º
