Oppression of Philistines and Ammonites
1 Now after° Abimelech° died, Tola° the son° of Puah°, the son° of Dodo°, a man° of Issachar°, aarose° to save° Israel°; and he lived° in Shamir° in the hill° country° of Ephraim°. 2 He judged° Israel° twenty-three°° years°. Then he died° and was buried° in Shamir°.
3 ¶ After° him, Jair° the Gileadite° arose° and judged° Israel° twenty-two°° years°. 4 He had° thirty° sons° who rode° on thirty° donkeys°, and they had thirty° cities° Iin the land° of Gilead° athat are called° IIHavvoth-jair° to this° day°. 5 And Jair° died° and was buried° in Kamon°.
6 ¶ Then the sons° of Israel° again° did° evil° in the sight° of the LORD°, aserved° the Baals° and the Ashtaroth°, the gods° of Aram°, the gods° of Sidon°, the gods° of Moab°, bthe gods° of the sons° of Ammon°, and the gods° of the Philistines°; thus cthey forsook° the LORD° and did not serve° Him. 7 The anger° of the LORD° burned° against Israel°, and He asold° them into the hands° of the Philistines° and into the hands° of the sons° of Ammon°. 8 They Iafflicted° and crushed° the sons° of Israel° IIthat year°; for eighteen°° years° they [afflicted] all° the sons° of Israel° who° were beyond° the Jordan° IIIin Gilead° in the land° of the Amorites°. 9 The sons° of Ammon° crossed° the Jordan° to fight° also° against Judah°, Benjamin°, and the house° of Ephraim°, so that Israel° was greatly° distressed°.

The Philistines and Ammorites oppress Israel.
6 ¶ And the childrenº of Israelº didºª evilº againºª in the sightº of the LORD,º and servedºª² Baalim,º and Ashtaroth,º and the godsº of Syria,º and the godsº of Zidon,º and the godsº of Moab,º and the godsº of the childrenº of Ammon,º and the godsº of the Philistines,º and forsookºª² the LORD,º and servedºª not² him. 7 And the angerº of the LORDº was hotºª against Israel,º and he soldºª them into the handsº of the Philistines,º and into the handsº of the childrenº of Ammon.º 8 And that² yearº they vexedºª and oppressedºª² the childrenº of Israel:º eighteenºº years,º² all² the childrenº of Israelº that² [were] on the other sideº Jordanº in the landº of the Amorites,º which² [is] in Gilead.º 9 Moreover the childrenº of Ammonº passed overºª² Jordanº to fightºª also² against Judah,º and against Benjamin,º and against the houseº of Ephraim;º so that Israelº was soreº distressed.ºª

Upon their repentance he pitieth them.
