Judah Warned against Egyptian Alliance

  1 “Woe° to the arebellious° children°,” declares° the LORD°,
  “Who bexecute° a plan°, but not Mine°,
  And Icmake° an alliance°, but not of My Spirit°,
  In order° to add° sin° to sin°;
  2 Who aproceed° down° to Egypt°
  Without° bconsulting° IMe,
  cTo take° refuge° in the safety° of Pharaoh°
  And to seek° shelter° in the shadow° of Egypt°!
  3 “Therefore the safety° of Pharaoh° will be ayour shame°
  And the shelter° in the shadow° of Egypt°, your humiliation°.
  4 “For atheir princes° are at Zoan°
  And their ambassadors° arrive° at Hanes°.
  5 “Everyone° will be aashamed° because° of a people° who cannot° profit° them,
  [Who are] bnot for help° or profit°, but for shame° and also° for reproach°.”

6 ¶ The Ioracle° concerning the abeasts° of the bNegev°.

  They ecarry° their riches° on the IIIbacks° of young° donkeys°
  And their treasures° on fcamels’° humps°,
  To a people° who cannot° profit° [them];
  7 Even Egypt°, whose ahelp° is vain° and empty°.
  Therefore°, I have called° Iher
  “IIbRahab° who° has been exterminated°.”
  8 Now° go°, awrite° it on a tablet° before° them

  11 “Get° out of the way°, aturn° aside° from the path°,
  IbLet us hear° no°° more° about the Holy° One° of Israel°.”
12 Therefore° thus° says° the Holy° One° of Israel°,
  “aSince° you have rejected° this° word°
  And have put° your trust° in boppression° and guile°, and have relied° on them,
  13 Therefore° this° ainiquity° will be to you

  Or to scoop° water° from a cistern°.”
15 For thus° the Lord° IGOD°, the Holy° One° of Israel°, has said°,
  “In IIrepentance° and arest° you will be saved°,
  In bquietness° and trust° is your strength°.”
  But you were not willing°,
  16 And you said°, “No°, for we will flee° on ahorses°,”
  Therefore°° you shall flee°!
  “And we will ride° on swift° [horses],”
  Therefore°° those who pursue° you shall be swift°.

God's wrath, and the people's joy, in the destruction of Assyria.

27 ¶ Behold,² the nameº of the LORDº comethºª from far,º² burningºª [with] his anger,º and the burdenº [thereof is] heavy:º his lipsº are fullºª of indignation,º and his tongueº as a devouringºª fire:º 28 And his breath,º as an overflowingºª stream,º shall reach to the midstºª of² the neck,º to siftºª the nationsº with the sieveº of vanity:º and [there shall be] a bridleº in² the jawsº of the people,º causing [them] to err.ºª 29 Ye shall have² a song,º as in the nightº [when] a holy¹ª solemnity¹ is kept;ºª² and gladnessº of heart,º as when one goethºª with a pipeº to comeºª into the mountainº of the LORD,º to² the mighty Oneº of Israel.º 30 And the LORDº shall cause² his gloriousº voiceº to be heard,ºª and shall shewºª the lighting downº of his arm,º with the indignationº of [his] anger,º and [with] the flameº of a devouringºª fire,º [with] scattering,º and tempest,º and hailstones.ºº 31 For² through the voiceº² of the LORDº shall the Assyrianº be beaten down,ºª [which] smoteºª with a rod.º 32 And [in] every placeº where the groundedº staffº shall pass,º which² the LORDº shall layºª upon² him, [it] shall be² with tabretsº and harps:º and in battlesº of shakingº will he fightºª with it. 33 For² Tophetº [is] ordainedºª of old;º² yea,² for the kingº it² is prepared;ºª he hath made [it] deepºª [and] large:ºª the pileº thereof [is] fireº and muchºª wood;º the breathº of the LORD,º like a streamº of brimstone,º doth kindleºª it.
