NASB — Hosea 12 — KJV

Ephraim Reminded

  1 IEphraim° feeds° on awind°,
  And pursues° the beast° wind° continually°°;
  He multiplies° lies° and violence°.
  Moreover, IIhe makes° a covenant° with Assyria°,
  And oil° is carried° to Egypt°.
  2 The LORD° also has a adispute° with Judah°,
  And will punish° Jacob° baccording to his ways°;
  He will repay° him according to his deeds°.
  3 In the womb° he atook° his brother° by the heel°,
  And in his maturity° he bcontended° with God°.
  4 Yes, he wrestled° with the angel° and prevailed°;
  He wept° and asought° His favor°.
  He found° Him at bBethel°
  And there° He spoke° with us,
  5 Even the LORD°, the God° of hosts°,
  The LORD° is His Ianame°.
  6 Therefore, areturn° to your God°,
  bObserve° Ikindness° and justice°,
  And cwait° for your God° continually°.
  7 A Imerchant°, in whose hands° are false° abalances°,
  He loves° to oppress°.
  8 And Ephraim° said°, “Surely° I have become° arich°,
  I have found° wealth° for myself;
  In all° my labors° they will find° in me
  bNo° iniquity°, which° [would be] sin°.”
  9 But I [have been] the LORD° your God° since° the land° of Egypt°;
  I will make you alive° in tents° again°,
  As in the days° of the appointed° festival°.
  10 I have also spoken° to the aprophets°,
  And I Igave° numerous° visions°,
  And through° the prophets° I gave° bparables°.
  11 Is there iniquity° [in] Gilead°?
  Surely° they are worthless°.
  In Gilgal° they sacrifice° bulls°,
  Yes°, atheir altars° are like the stone° heaps°
  Beside° the furrows° of the field°.

3 ¶ He took his brother¹ by the heelºª²² in the womb,º and by his strengthº he had powerºª with² God:º 4 Yea, he had power¹ª² over² the angel,º and prevailed:ºª he wept,ºª and made supplicationºª unto him: he foundºª him [in] Bethel,º and there² he spakeºª with² us; 5 Even the LORDº Godº of hosts;º the LORDº [is] his memorial.º 6 Therefore turnºª thou² to thy God:º keepºª mercyº and judgment,º and waitºª on² thy Godº continually.º

Ephraim's sins provoke God.

7 ¶ [He is] a merchant,º the balancesº of deceitº [are] in his hand:º he lovethºª to oppress.ºª 8 And Ephraimº said,ºª Yet² I am become rich,ºª I have found me outºª substance:º [in] all² my laboursº they shall findºª none² iniquityº in me that² [were] sin.º 9 And I² [that am] the LORDº thy Godº from the landº² of Egyptº will yet² make thee to dwellºª in tabernacles,º as in the daysº of the solemn feast.º 10 I have also spokenºª by² the prophets,º and I² have multipliedºª visions,º and used similitudes,ºª by the ministryº of the prophets.º 11 [Is there] iniquityº [in] Gilead?º surely² they are² vanity:º they sacrificeºª bullocksº in Gilgal;º yea,² their altarsº [are] as heapsº in² the furrowsº of the fields.º 12 And Jacobº fledºª into the countryº of Syria,º and Israelº servedºª for a wife,º and for a wifeº he keptºª [sheep]. 13 And by a prophetº the LORDº broughtºª² Israelº out of Egypt,º² and by a prophetº was he preserved.ºª 14 Ephraimº provoked [him] to angerºª most bitterly:º therefore shall he leaveºª his bloodº upon² him, and his reproachº shall his Lordº returnºª unto him.
