NASB — Hosea 9 — KJV

Ephraim Punished

  1 aDo not rejoice°, O Israel°, Iwith exultation° like the IInations°!
  For you have bplayed° the harlot°, IIIforsaking°° your God°.
  You have loved° [harlots]’ earnings° on IVevery° threshing° floor°.
  2 Threshing° floor° and wine° press° will anot feed° them,
  And the new° wine° will fail° Ithem.
  3 They will not remain° in athe LORDS° land°,
  But Ephraim° will return° to bEgypt°,
  And in cAssyria° they will eat° dunclean° [food].
  4 They will not pour° out drink° offerings° of awine° to the LORD°,
  bTheir sacrifices° will not please° Him.
  [Their bread will] I[be] like IImourners’° bread°;
  All° who eat° of it will be cdefiled°,
  For their bread° will be for IIIthemselves° [alone];
  It will not enter° the house° of the LORD°.
  5 aWhat° will you do° on the day° of the appointed° festival°
  And on the day° of the bfeast° of the LORD°?
  6 For behold°, they will go° because° of destruction°;
  Egypt° will gather° them up, aMemphis° will bury° them.
  Weeds° will take° over° their treasures° of silver°;
  bThorns° [will be] in their tents°.

The distress and captivity of Israel for their sins and idolatry.

1 ¶ Rejoiceºª not,² O Israel,º for² joy,º as [other] people:º for² thou hast gone a whoringºª from²² thy God,º thou hast lovedºª a rewardº upon² every² cornfloor.ºº 2 The floorº and the winepressº shall not² feedºª them, and the new wineº shall failºª in her. 3 They shall not² dwellºª in the LORD'Sº land;º but Ephraimº shall returnºª to Egypt,º and they shall eatºª uncleanº [things] in Assyria.º 4 They shall not² offerºª wineº [offerings] to the LORD,º neither² shall they be pleasingºª unto him: their sacrificesº [shall be] unto them as the breadº of mourners;º all² that eatºª thereof shall be polluted:ºª for² their breadº for their soulº shall not² come¹ª into² the houseº of the LORD.º 5 What² will ye doºª in the solemnº day,º and in the dayº of the feastº of the LORD?º 6 For,² lo,² they are goneºª because of destruction:º² Egyptº shall gather them up,ºª Memphisº shall buryºª them: the pleasantº [places] for their silver,º nettlesº shall possessºª them: thornsº [shall be] in their tabernacles.º 7 The daysº of visitationº are come,ºª the daysº of recompenceº are come;ºª Israelº shall knowºª [it]: the prophetº [is] a fool,º the spiritualº manº [is] mad,ºª for² the multitudeº of thine iniquity,º and the greatº hatred.º 8 The watchmanºª of Ephraimº [was] with² my God:º [but] the prophetº [is] a snareº of a fowlerº in² all² his ways,º [and] hatredº in the houseº of his God.º 9 They have deeplyºª corruptedºª [themselves], as in the daysº of Gibeah:º [therefore] he will rememberºª their iniquity,º he will visitºª their sins.º 10 I foundºª Israelº like grapesº in the wilderness;º I sawºª your fathersº as the firstripeº in the fig treeº at her first time:º [but] they² wentºª to Baalpeor,º and separated¹ª themselves² unto [that] shame;º and [their] abominationsº were² according as they loved.ºª 11 [As for] Ephraim,º their gloryº shall fly awayºª like a bird,º from the birth,ºª² and from the womb,º² and from the conception.º² 12 Though²² they bring upºª² their children,º yet will I bereaveºª them, [that there shall] not [be] a manº² [left]: yea,² woeº also² to them when I departºª from² them! 13 Ephraim,º as² I sawºª Tyrus,º [is] plantedºª in a pleasant place:º but Ephraimº shall bring forthºª his childrenº to² the murderer.ºª 14 Giveºª them, O LORD:º what² wilt thou give?ºª giveºª them a miscarryingºª wombº and dryºª breasts.º 15 All² their wickednessº [is] in Gilgal:º for² there² I hatedºª them: for² the wickednessº of their doingsº I will drive them outºª of mine house,º² I will love¹² them no² more:ºª all² their princesº [are] revolters.ºª 16 Ephraimº is smitten,ºª their rootº is dried up,ºª they shall bearºª no² fruit:º yea,² though² they bring forth,ºª yet will I slayºª [even] the belovedº [fruit] of their womb.º 17 My Godº will cast them away,ºª because² they did not² hearkenºª unto him: and they shall be² wanderersºª among the nations.º
