  1 aWoe° to those° who are at ease° in Zion°
  And to those who [feel] secure° in the mountain° of Samaria°,
  The bdistinguished° men of the foremost° of nations°,
  To whom° the house° of Israel° comes°.
  2 Go° over° to aCalneh° and look°,
  And go° from there° to bHamath° the great°,
  Then go° down° to cGath° of the Philistines°.
  Are Ithey better° than° these° kingdoms°,
  Or° is their territory° greater° than° yours?
  3 Do you aput° off° the day° of calamity°,
  And would you bbring° near° the seat° of violence°?

  And sprawl° on their acouches°,
  And beat° lambs° from the flock°
  And calves° from the midst° of the stall°,
  5 Who improvise° to the sound° of the harp°,
  [And] like David° have Icomposed° asongs° for themselves,
  6 Who adrink° wine° from Isacrificial° bowls°
  While they anoint° themselves with the finest° of oils°,
  Yet they have not bgrieved° over° the ruin° of Joseph°.
  7 Therefore°, they will now° ago° into exile° at the head° of the exiles°,
  And the bsprawlers’° Ibanqueting° will IIpass° away°.

  8 ¶ The Lord° IGOD° has asworn° by Himself°, the LORD° God° of hosts° has declared°:
  “I bloathe° the arrogance° of Jacob°,
  And IIdetest° his ccitadels°;
  Therefore I will ddeliver° up [the] city° and IIIall° it contains°.”
9 And it will be, if° aten° men° are left° in one° house°, they will die°. 10 Then one’s Iuncle°, or his IIaundertaker°, will lift° him up to carry° out [his] bones° from the house°, and he will say° to the one who° is in the innermost° part° of the house°, “Is anyone else° with you?” And that one will say°, “No° one°.” Then he will IIIanswer°, “bKeep° quiet°. For IVthe name° of the LORD° is cnot to be mentioned°.” 11 For behold°, the LORD° is going to acommand° that the bgreat° house° be smashed° to pieces° and the small° house° to fragments°.

  “And they will afflict° you from the bentrance° of Hamath°

The wantonness of Israel,

shall be plagued with desolation,

7 ¶ Therefore² now² shall they go captiveºª with the firstº that go captive,ºª and the banquetº of them that stretchedºª themselves shall be removed.ºª 8 The Lordº GODº hath swornºª by himself,º saithºª the LORDº the Godº of hosts,º I² abhorºª² the excellencyº of Jacob,º and hateºª his palaces:º therefore will I deliver upºª the cityº with all that is therein.º 9 And it shall come to pass,² if² there remainºª tenº men¹² in oneº house,º that they shall die.ºª 10 And a man's uncleº shall take him up,ºª and he that burnethºª him, to bring outºª the bonesº out of² the house,º and shall sayºª unto him that² [is] by the sidesº of the house,º [Is there] yet² [any] with² thee? and he shall say,ºª No.º Then shall he say,ºª Hold thy tongue:ºª for² we may not² make mentionºª of the nameº of the LORD.º 11 For,² behold,² the LORDº commandeth,ºª and he will smiteºª the greatº houseº with breaches,º and the littleº houseº with clefts.º
