Water from the Temple

1 Then he brought° me back° to the adoor° of the house°; and behold°, bwater° was flowing° from under° the threshold° of the house° toward the east°, for the house° faced° east°. And the water° was flowing° down° from under°, from the right° side° of the house°, from south° of the altar°. 2 He brought° me out by way° of the north° gate° and led° me around° Ion the outside° to the outer° gate° by way° of [the gate] that faces° east°. And behold°, water° was trickling° from the south° side°.

3 ¶ When the man° went° out toward the east° with a line° in his hand°, he measured° a thousand° cubits°, and he led° me through° the water°, water° [reaching] the ankles°. 4 Again he measured° a thousand° and led° me through° the water°, water° [reaching] the knees°. Again he measured° a thousand° and led° me through° [the water], water° [reaching] the loins°. 5 Again he measured° a thousand°; [and it was] a river° that I could° not ford°, for the water° had risen°, [enough] water° to swim° in, a ariver° that could not be forded°. 6 He said° to me, “Son° of man°, have you aseen° [this]?” Then he brought° me Iback° to the bank° of the river°. 7 Now when I had returned°, behold°, on the bank° of the river° there [were] very° many° atrees° on the one° side° and on the other°. 8 Then he said° to me, “These° waters° go° out toward° the eastern° region° and go° down° into the aArabah°; then they go° toward the sea°, being made to flow° into the bsea°, and the waters° [of the sea] become° Ifresh°. 9 It will come° about that every° living° creature° which° swarms° in every° place where°° the Iriver° goes°, will live°. And there will be very° many° fish°, for these° waters° go° there° and [the others] IIbecome° fresh°; so aeverything° will live° where°° the river° goes°. 10 And it will come° about that afishermen° will stand° beside° it; from bEngedi° to Eneglaim° there will be a place° for the cspreading° of nets°. Their fish° will be according to their kinds°, like the fish° of the dGreat° Sea°, every° many°. 11 But its swamps° and marshes° will not become° Ifresh°; they will be IIleft° for asalt°. 12 aBy the river° on its bank°, on one° side° and on the other°, will grow° all° [kinds of] btrees° for food°. Their cleaves° will not wither° and their fruit° will not fail°. They will bear° every month° because° their water° flows° from the sanctuary°, and their fruit° will be for food° and their dleaves° for healing°.”

Boundaries and Division of the Land

13 ¶ Thus° says° the Lord° IGOD°, “This° [shall be] the aboundary° by which° you shall divide° the land° for an inheritance° among the twelve°° tribes° of Israel°; Joseph° [shall have] two° bportions°. 14 You shall divide° it for an inheritance°, each° one° Iequally with the other°; for I IIaswore°° to give° it to your forefathers°, and this° land° shall fall° to you IIIas an inheritance°.

This is the north° side°.

And they shall be to you as the native-born° among the sons° of Israel°; they shall be allotted° an cinheritance° with you among° the tribes° of Israel°. 23 And in the tribe° with which° the alien° stays°, there° you shall give° [him] his inheritance°,” declares° the Lord° GOD°.

The vision of the holy waters.

1 ¶ Afterward he brought me againºª unto² the doorº of the house;º and, behold,² watersº issued outºª from under²² the thresholdº of the houseº eastward:º for² the forefrontº of the houseº [stood toward] the east,º and the watersº came downºª from under²² from the right¹ sideº²² of the house,º at the southº² [side] of the altar.º 2 Then brought he me outºª of the wayº of the gateº northward,º and led me aboutºª the wayº without² unto² the utterº gateº by the wayº that lookethºª eastward;º and, behold,² there ran outºª watersº on² the rightº side.º 3 And when the manº that had the lineº in his handº went forthºª eastward,º he measuredºª a thousandº cubits,º and he brought² me through¹ª the waters;º the watersº [were] to the ankles.º 4 Again he measuredºª a thousand,º and brought² me through¹ª the waters;º the watersº [were] to the knees.º Again he measuredºª a thousand,º and brought me through;¹ª the watersº [were] to the loins.º 5 Afterward he measuredºª a thousand;º [and it was] a riverº that² I couldºª not² pass over:ºª for² the watersº were risen,ºª watersº to swim in,º a riverº that² could not² be passed over.ºª

The virtue of them.

6 ¶ And he saidºª unto² me, Sonº of man,º hast thou seenºª [this]? Then he brought¹ª² me, and caused me to returnºª to the brinkº of the river.º 7 Now when I had returned,ºª behold,² at² the bankº of the riverº [were] veryº manyº treesº on the one side²² and on the other.²² 8 Then saidºª he unto² me, These² watersº issue outºª toward² the eastº country,º and go downºª into² the desert,º and go¹ª into² the sea:º [which being] brought forthºª into² the sea,º the watersº shall be healed.ºª 9 And it shall come to pass,² [that] every² thingº that liveth,º which² moveth,ºª whithersoever²²²² the riversº shall come,ºª shall live:ºª and there shall be² a veryº greatº multitude of fish,º because² these² watersº shall comeºª thither:² for they shall be healed;ºª and every thing² shall live¹ª² whither²² the riverº cometh.ºª 10 And it shall come to pass,² [that] the fishersº shall standºªªª upon² it from Engediº² even unto² Eneglaim;º they shall be² a [place] to spread forthº nets;º their fishº shall be² according to their kinds,º as the fishº of the greatº sea,º exceedingº many.º 11 But the miry placesº thereof and the marishesº thereof shall not² be healed;ºª they shall be givenºª to salt.º 12 And by² the riverº upon² the bankº thereof, on this side²² and on that side,²² shall growºª all² treesº for meat,º whose leafº shall not² fade,ºª neither² shall the fruitº thereof be consumed:ºª it shall bring forth new fruitºª according to his months,º because² their watersº they² issued outºª of² the sanctuary:º and the fruitº thereof shall be² for meat,º and the leafº thereof for medicine.º

The borders of the land.

13 ¶ Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º Thisº [shall be] the border,º whereby² ye shall inheritºª² the landº according to the twelveºº tribesº of Israel:º Josephº [shall have two] portions.º 14 And ye shall inheritºª it, oneº as well as another:º [concerning] the which² I lifted upºª² mine handº to giveºª it unto your fathers:º and this² landº shall fallºª unto you for inheritance.º 15 And this² [shall be] the borderº of the landº toward the northº side,º from² the greatº sea,º the wayº of Hethlon,º as men goºª to Zedad;º 16 Hamath,º Berothah,º Sibraim,º which² [is] between² the borderº of Damascusº and the borderº of Hamath;º Hazarhatticon,º which² [is] by² the coastº of Hauran.º 17 And the borderº from² the seaº shall be² Hazarenan,º the borderº of Damascus,º and the northº northward,º and the borderº of Hamath.º And [this is] the northº side.º 18 And the eastº sideº ye shall measureºª fromº² Hauran,º and fromº² Damascus,º and fromº² Gilead,º and fromº² the landº of Israelº [by] Jordan,º from the borderº² unto² the eastº sea.º And [this is] the eastº side.º 19 And the southº sideº southward,º from Tamarº² [even] to² the watersº of strifeº¹ª [in] Kadesh,º the riverº to² the greatº sea.º And [this is] the southº sideº southward.º 20 The westº sideº also [shall be] the greatº seaº from the border,º² till² a man comeºª over againstº Hamath.º This² [is] the westº side.º 21 So shall ye divideºª² this² landº unto you according to the tribesº of Israel.º

The division of it by lot.

22 ¶ And it shall come to pass,² [that] ye shall divide¹ª it by lot²² for an inheritanceº unto you, and to the strangersº that sojournºª amongº you, which² shall begetºª childrenº amongº you: and they shall be² unto you as born¹ in the countryº among the childrenº of Israel;º they shall haveºª inheritanceº with² you amongº the tribesº of Israel.º 23 And it shall come to pass,² [that] in what² tribeº the strangerº sojourneth,ºª there²² shall ye giveºª [him] his inheritance,º saithºª the Lordº GOD.º
