Abram and Lot

1 So Abram° went° up from Egypt° to athe INegev°, he and his wife° and all° that belonged to him, and Lot° with him.

2 ¶ Now Abram° was avery° rich° in livestock°, in silver° and in gold°. 3 He went° Ion his journeys° from the IINegev° as far° as Bethel°, to the place° where°° his tent° had been° at the beginning°, abetween° Bethel° and Ai°, 4 to the place° of the aaltar° which° he had made° there° formerly°; and there° Abram° called° on the name° of the LORD°. 5 Now aLot°, who went° with Abram°, also° had° flocks° and herds° and tents°. 6 And athe land° could not Isustain° them IIwhile dwelling° together°, bfor their possessions° were so great° that they were not able° to remain° together°. 7 aAnd there was strife° between° the herdsmen° of Abram’s° livestock° and the herdsmen° of Lot’s° livestock°. Now bthe Canaanite° and the Perizzite° were dwelling° then° in the land°.

8aSo Abram° said° to Lot°, “Please° let there be no° strife° between° you and me, nor between° my herdsmen° and your herdsmen°, for we are brothers°. 9 Is not the whole° land° before° you? Please° separate° from me; if° [to] the left°, then I will go° to the right°; or if° [to] the right°, then I will go° to the left°.” 10 Lot° lifted° up his eyes° and saw° all° the Iavalley° of the Jordan°, that it was well° watered° everywhere°—[this was] before° the LORD° bdestroyed° Sodom° and Gomorrah°—like cthe garden° of the LORD°, dlike the land° of Egypt° as you go° to eZoar°. 11 So Lot° chose° for himself all° the Ivalley° of the Jordan°, and Lot° journeyed° eastward°. Thus they separated° from each° other°. 12 Abram° Isettled° in the land° of Canaan°, while Lot° Isettled° in athe cities° of the IIvalley°, and moved° his tents° as far° as Sodom°. 13 Now athe men° of Sodom° were wicked° Iexceedingly° and bsinners° against the LORD°.

14 ¶ The LORD° said° to Abram°, after° Lot° had separated° from him, “aNow° lift° up your eyes° and look° from the place° where°° you are, bnorthward° and southward° and eastward° and westward°; 15 afor all° the land° which° you see°, bI will give° it to you and to your Idescendants° forever°°. 16 I will make° your Idescendants° aas the dust° of the earth°, so° that if° anyone° can° number° the dust° of the earth°, then your Idescendants° can also° be numbered°. 17 Arise°, awalk° about the land° through its length° and breadth°; for bI will give° it to you.” 18 Then Abram° moved° his tent° and came° and dwelt° by the Iaoaks° of Mamre°, which° are in Hebron°, and there° he built° ban altar° to the LORD°.

Abram and Lot return out of Egypt.

Lot goeth to wicked Sodom.

10 And Lotº lifted upºª² his eyes,º and beheldºª² all² the plainº of Jordan,º that² it [was] well wateredº every where,² beforeº the LORDº destroyedºª² Sodomº and Gomorrah,º [even] as the gardenº of the LORD,º like the landº of Egypt,º as thou comestºª unto Zoar.º 11 Then Lotº choseºª him² all² the plainº of Jordan;º and Lotº journeyedºª east:º² and they separated themselvesºª the oneº from²² the other.º 12 Abramº dwelledºª in the landº of Canaan,º and Lotº dwelledºª in the citiesº of the plain,º and pitched [his] tentºª towardº Sodom.º 13 But the men¹² of Sodomº [were] wickedº and sinnersº before the LORDº exceedingly.º

God reneweth the promise to Abram.

14 ¶ And the LORDº saidºª unto² Abram,º after¹ that² Lotº was separatedºª from²² him, Lift upºª now² thine eyes,º and lookºª from² the placeº where²² thou² art northward,º and southward,º and eastward,º and westward:º 15 For²² all² the landº which² thou² seest,ºª to thee will I give² it,¹ª and to thy seedº for¹ ever.º² 16 And I will makeºª² thy seedº as the dustº of the earth:º so thatº if² a manº canºª numberºª² the dustº of the earth,º [then] shall thy seedº also² be numbered.ºª 17 Arise,ºª walkºª through the landº in the lengthº of it and in the breadthº of it; for² I will giveºª it unto thee.
