NASB — 1 Timothy 2 — KJV

A Call to Prayer

1 First of all, then, I urge that aentreaties [and] prayers, petitions [and] thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 afor kings and all who are in Iauthority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and IIdignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of aGod our Savior, 4 awho desires all men to be bsaved and to ccome to the Iknowledge of the truth. 5 For there is aone God, [and] bone mediator also between God and men, [the] cman Christ Jesus, 6 who agave Himself as a ransom for all, the btestimony I[given] at IIcthe proper time. 7 aFor this I was appointed a Ipreacher and ban apostle (cI am telling the truth, I am not lying) as a teacher of dthe Gentiles in faith and truth.

Women Instructed

9 Likewise, [I want] awomen to adorn themselves with proper clothing, Imodestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 aA woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness. 12 aBut I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 aFor it was Adam who was first Icreated, [and] then Eve. 14 And [it was] not Adam [who] was deceived, but athe woman being deceived, Ifell into transgression. 15 But [women] will be Ipreserved through the bearing of children if they continue in afaith and love and sanctity with IIself-restraint.

That it is meet to pray and give thanks for all men, and the reason why.

1 ¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men; 2 For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3 For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; 6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 7 Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, [and] lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. 8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.

How women should be attired.

9 In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10 But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works. 11 Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.

12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was first formed, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
