Zophar sheweth the state and portion of the wicked.

1 ¶ Then answeredºª Zopharº the Naamathite,º and said,ºª 2 Therefore² do my thoughtsº cause me to answer,ºª and for² [this] I make haste.ºª 3 I have heardºª the checkº of my reproach,º and the spiritº of my understandingº² causeth me to answer.ºª 4 Knowestºª thou [not] this² of² old,º since² manº was placedºª upon² earth,º 5 That² the triumphingº of the wickedº [is] short,º² and the joyº of the hypocriteº [but] for² a moment?º 6 Though² his excellencyº mount upºª to the heavens,º and his headº reachºª unto the clouds;º 7 [Yet] he shall perishºª for everº like his own dung:º they which have seenºª him shall say,ºª Whereº [is] he? 8 He shall fly awayºª as a dream,º and shall not² be found:ºª yea, he shall be chased awayºª as a visionº of the night.º 9 The eyeº also [which] sawºª him shall [see him] no² more;ºª neither² shall his placeº any more² beholdºª him. 10 His childrenº shall seek to pleaseºª the poor,º and his handsº shall restoreºª their goods.º 11 His bonesº are fullºª [of the sin] of his youth,º which shall lie downºª with² him in² the dust.º 12 Though² wickednessº be sweetºª in his mouth,º [though] he hideºª it under² his tongue;º 13 [Though] he spareºª² it, and forsakeºª it not;² but keep it stillºª withinº his mouth:º 14 [Yet] his meatº in his bowelsº is turned,ºª [it is] the gallº of aspsº withinº him. 15 He hath swallowed downºª riches,º and he shall vomit them up again:ºª Godº shall cast them outºª of² his belly.º 16 He shall suckºª the poisonº of asps:º the viper'sº tongueº shall slayºª him. 17 He shall not² seeºª the rivers,º the floods,º the brooksº of honeyº and butter.º 18 That which he laboured¹ for² shall he restore,ºª and shall not² swallow [it] down:ºª according to [his] substanceº [shall] the restitutionº [be], and he shall not² rejoiceºª [therein]. 19 Because² he hath oppressedºª [and] hath forsakenºª the poor;º [because] he hath violently taken awayºª an houseº which he buildedºª not;² 20 Surely² he shall not² feelºª quietnessº in his belly,º he shall not² saveºª of that which he desired.ºª 21 There shall none² of his meatº be left;º therefore²² shall no² man lookºª for his goods.º 22 In the fulnessºªªª of his sufficiencyº he shall be in straits:ºª every² handº of the wickedº shall comeºª upon him. 23 [When] he² is about to fillºª his belly,º [God] shall castºª the furyº of his wrathº upon him, and shall rainºª [it] upon² him while he is eating.º 24 He shall fleeºª from the ironº weapon,º² [and] the bowº of steelº shall strike him through.ºª 25 It is drawn,ºª and cometh outºª of the body;º² yea, the glittering swordº cometh² out¹ª of his gall:º² terrorsº [are] upon² him. 26 All² darknessº [shall be] hidºª in his secret places:ºª a fireº not² blownºª shall consumeºª him; it shall go ill¹ª² with him that is leftº in his tabernacle.º 27 The heavenº shall revealºª his iniquity;º and the earthº shall rise upºª against him. 28 The increaseº of his houseº shall depart,ºª [and his goods] shall flow awayºª in the dayº of his wrath.º 29 This² [is] the portionº of a wickedº manº from God,º² and the heritageº appointedº unto him by God.º²
