NASB — Job 35 — KJV

Elihu Sharply Reproves Job

1 Then Elihu° continued° and said°,
  2 “Do you think° this° is according to ajustice°?
  Do you say°, ‘My righteousness° is more° than° God’s°’?
  3 “For you say°, ‘aWhat° advantage° will it be to IYou?
  bWhat° profit° will I have, more° than° if I had sinned°?’
  4 “I will answer°° you,
  And your friends° with you.
  5aLook° at the heavens° and see°;
  And behold° bthe clouds°—they are higher° than° you.
  6 “If° you have sinned°, awhat° do you accomplish° against Him?
  And if your transgressions° are many°, what° do you do° to Him?
  7 “If° you are righteous°, awhat° do you give° to Him,
  Or° what° does He receive° from your hand°?
  8 “Your wickedness° is for a man° like° yourself,
  And your righteousness° is for a son° of man°.

  9 ¶ “Because° of the amultitude° of oppressions° they cry° out;
  They cry° for help° because° of the arm° bof the mighty°.
  10 “But ano° one says°, ‘Where° is God° my Maker°,

Comparison is not to be made with God, because our good or evil cannot extend unto him.

1 ¶ Elihuº spakeºª moreover, and said,ºª 2 Thinkestºª thou this² to be right,º [that] thou saidst,ºª My righteousnessº [is] more than God's?º² 3 For² thou saidst,ºª What² advantageºª will it be unto thee? [and], What² profitºª shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?º² 4 I² will answerººª thee, and thy companionsº with² thee. 5 Lookºª unto the heavens,º and see;ºª and beholdºª the cloudsº [which] are higherºª than² thou. 6 If² thou sinnest,ºª what² doestºª thou against him? or [if] thy transgressionsº be multiplied,ºª what² doestºª thou unto him? 7 If² thou be righteous,ºª what² givestºª thou him? or² what² receivethºª he of thine hand?º² 8 Thy wickednessº [may hurt] a manº as thou² [art]; and thy righteousnessº [may profit] the sonº of man.º

Many cry in their afflictions, but are not heard for want of faith.

9 By reason of the multitudeº² of oppressionsº they make [the oppressed] to cry:ºª they cry outºª by reason of the armº² of the mighty.º 10 But none² saith,ºª Where² [is] Godº my maker,ºª who givethºª songsº in the night;º 11 Who teachethºª us more than the beastsº² of the earth,º and maketh us wiserºª than the fowlsº² of heaven?º 12 There² they cry,ºª but none² giveth answer,ºª becauseº² of the prideº of evil men.º 13 Surely² Godº will not² hearºª vanity,º neither² will the Almightyº regardºª it. 14 Althoughº² thou sayestºª thou shalt not² seeºª him, [yet] judgmentº [is] beforeº him; therefore trustºª thou in him. 15 But now,² because² [it is] not² [so], he hath visitedºª in his anger;º yet he knowethºª [it] not² in greatº extremity:º 16 Therefore doth Jobº openºª his mouthº in vain;º he multipliethºª wordsº withoutº knowledge.º
