Elihu Says God Is Back of the Storm

  1 “At this° also° my heart° trembles°,
  And leaps° from its place°.
  2 “Listen° closely° to the athunder° of His voice°,
  And the rumbling° that goes° out from His mouth°.
  3 “Under° the whole° heaven° He lets° it loose°,
  And His Ilightning° to the aends° of the earth°.
  4 “After° it, a voice° roars°;
  He thunders° with His majestic° voice°,
  And He does not restrain° Ithe lightnings when His voice° is heard°.
  5 “God° athunders° with His voice° wondrously°,
  Doing° bgreat° things° which we cannot° comprehend°.
  6 “For to athe snow° He says°, ‘Fall° on the earth°,’
  And to the Ibdownpour°° and the rain°°, ‘Be strong°.’
  7 “He aseals° the hand° of every° man°,
  That ball° men° may know° His work°.
  8 “Then the beast° goes° into its alair°
  And remains° in its Iden°.
  9 “Out of the Iasouth° comes° the storm°,
  And out of the IInorth° the cold°.
  10 “From the breath° of God° aice° is made°,
  And the expanse° of the waters° is frozen°.
  11 “Also° with moisture° He aloads° the thick° cloud°;
  He bdisperses° cthe cloud° of His Ilightning°.
  12 “It changes° direction°, turning° around° by His guidance°,
  That Iit may do° whatever°° He acommands° IIit
  On the bface° of the inhabited° earth°.
  13 “Whether° for Iacorrection°, or° for bHis world°,
  Or° for clovingkindness°, He causes it to IIhappen°.

  The awonders° of one bperfect° in knowledge°,
  17 You whose° garments° are hot°,
  When the land° is still° because° of the south° wind?
  18 “Can you, with Him, aspread° out the skies°,
  Strong° as a molten° mirror°?
  19 “Teach° us what° we shall say° to Him;
  We acannot° arrange° [our case] because°° of darkness°.
  20 “Shall it be told° Him that I would speak°?
  IOr° should a man° say° that he would be swallowed° up?

1 ¶ At thisº also² my heartº trembleth,ºª and is moved² out¹ª of his place.º² 2 Hear¹ª attentivelyºª the noiseº of his voice,º and the soundº [that] goeth outºª of his mouth.º² 3 He directethºª it¹ª under² the whole² heaven,º and his lightningº unto² the endsº of the earth.º 4 Afterº it a voiceº roareth:ºª he thunderethºª with the voiceº of his excellency;º and he will not² stayºª them when² his voiceº is heard.ºª 5 Godº thunderethºª marvellouslyºª with his voice;º great thingsº doethºª he, which we cannot² comprehend.ºª 6 For² he saithºª to the snow,º Be² thou¹ª [on] the earth;º likewise to the smallº rain,º and to the greatº rainº of his strength.º 7 He sealeth upºª the handº of every² man;º that all² men¹² may knowºª his work.º 8 Then the beastsº goºª intoº dens,º and remainºª in their places.º 9 Out of² the southº comethºª the whirlwind:º and coldº out of the north.º² 10 By the breathº² of Godº frostº is given:ºª and the breadthº of the watersº is straitened.º 11 Also² by wateringº he weariethºª the thick cloud:º he scatterethºª his brightº cloud:º 12 And it² is turnedºª round aboutº by his counsels:º that they may do¹² whatsoever²² he commandethºª them upon² the faceº of the worldº in the earth.º 13 He causeth it to come,ºª whether² for correction,º or² for his land,º or² for mercy.º 14 Hearkenºª unto this,² O Job:º stand still,ºª and considerºª the wondrousºª works of God.º

15 Dost thou knowºª when Godº disposedºª² them, and caused the lightº of his cloudº to shine?ºª 16 Dost thou knowºª² the balancingsº of the clouds,º the wondrous worksº of him which is perfectº in knowledge?º 17 How² thy garmentsº [are] warm,º when he quietethºª the earthº by the southº² [wind]? 18 Hast thou with² him spread outºª the sky,º [which is] strong,º [and] as a moltenºª looking glass?º 19 Teachºª us what² we shall sayºª unto him; [for] we cannot² orderºª [our speech] by reasonº² of darkness.º 20 Shall it be toldºª him that² I speak?ºª if² a manº speak,ºª surely² he shall be swallowed up.ºª 21 And now² [men] seeºª not² the brightº lightº which² [is] in the clouds:º but the windº passeth,ºª and cleansethºª them. 22 Fair weatherº comethºª out of the north:º² with² Godº [is] terribleºª majesty.º 23 [Touching] the Almighty,º we cannot² find him out:ºª [he is] excellentº in power,º and in judgment,º and in plentyº of justice:º he will not² afflict.ºª 24 Men¹² do therefore² fearºª him: he respectethºª not² any² [that are] wiseº of heart.º
