David praiseth God for his manifold and marvellous blessings.

1 ¶ [[To the chief Musician,ºª [A Psalm] of David,º the servantº of the LORD,º who² spakeºª unto the LORDº² the wordsº of this² songº in the dayº [that] the LORDº deliveredºª him from the handº² of all² his enemies,ºª and from the handº² of Saul:º And he said,]]ºª I will loveºª thee, O LORD,º my strength.º 2 The LORDº [is] my rock,º and my fortress,º and my deliverer;ºª my God,º my strength,º in whom I will trust;ºª my buckler,º and the hornº of my salvation,º [and] my high tower.º 3 I will callºª upon the LORD,º [who is worthy] to be praised:ºª so shall I be savedºª from² mine enemies.ºª 4 The sorrowsº of deathº compassedºª me, and the floodsº of ungodly menº made me afraid.ºª 5 The sorrowsº of hellº compassed me about:ºª the snaresº of deathº preventedºª me. 6 In my distressº I called¹ª upon² the LORD,º and criedºª unto² my God:º he heardºª my voiceº out of his temple,º² and my cryº cameºª beforeº him, [even] into his ears.º 7 Then the earthº shookºª and trembled;ºª the foundationsº also of the hillsº movedºª and were shaken,ºª because² he was wroth.ºª 8 There went upºª a smokeº out of his nostrils,º and fireº out of his mouthº² devoured:ºª coalsº were kindledºª by² it. 9 He bowedºª the heavensº also, and came down:ºª and darknessº [was] under² his feet.º 10 And he rodeºª upon² a cherub,º and did fly:ºª yea, he did flyºª upon² the wingsº of the wind.º 11 He madeºª darkness¹² his secret place;º his pavilionº round aboutº him [were] darkº watersº [and] thick cloudsº of the skies.º 12 At the brightnessº² [that was] before² him his thick cloudsº passed,ºª hailº [stones] and coalsº of fire.º 13 The LORDº also thunderedºª in the heavens,º and the Highestº gaveºª his voice;º hailº [stones] and coalsº of fire.º 14 Yea, he sent outºª his arrows,º and scatteredºª them; and he shot outºª lightnings,º and discomfitedºª them. 15 Then the channelsº of watersº were seen,ºª and the foundationsº of the worldº were discoveredºª at thy rebuke,º² O LORD,º at the blastº² of the breathº of thy nostrils.º 16 He sentºª from above,º² he tookºª me, he drewºª me out of many¹ waters.º²² 17 He deliveredºª me from my strongº enemy,ºª² and from them which hatedºª² me: for² they were too strongºª for² me. 18 They preventedºª me in the dayº of my calamity:º but the LORDº was² my stay.º 19 He brought me forthºª also into a large place;º he deliveredºª me, because² he delightedºª in me. 20 The LORDº rewardedºª me according to my righteousness;º according to the cleannessº of my handsº hath he recompensedºª me. 21 For² I have keptºª the waysº of the LORD,º and have not² wickedly departedºª from my God.º² 22 For² all² his judgmentsº [were] before² me, and I did not² put awayºª his statutesº from² me. 23 I was² also uprightº before² him, and I kept¹ª myself² from mine iniquity.º² 24 Therefore hath the LORDº recompensedºª me according to my righteousness,º according to the cleannessº of my handsº in² his eyesight.º 25 With² the mercifulº thou wilt shew thyself merciful;ºª with² an uprightº manº thou wilt shew thyself upright;ºª 26 With² the pureºª thou wilt shew thyself pure;ºª and with² the frowardº thou wilt shew thyself froward.ºª 27 For² thou wilt² saveºª the afflictedº people;º but wilt bring downºª highºª looks.º 28 For² thou² wilt lightºª my candle:º the LORDº my Godº will enlightenºª my darkness.º 29 For² by thee I have run throughºª a troop;º and by my Godº have I leaped overºª a wall.º 30 [As for] God,º his wayº [is] perfect:º the wordº of the LORDº is tried:ºª he² [is] a bucklerº to all² those that trustºª in him. 31 For² who² [is] Godº saveº² the LORD?º or who² [is] a rockº saveº our God?º 32 [It is] Godº that girdethºª me with strength,º and makethºª my wayº perfect.º 33 He makethºª my feetº like hinds'º [feet], and settethºª me upon² my high places.º 34 He teachethºª my handsº to war,º so that a bowº of steelº is brokenºª by mine arms.º 35 Thou hast also givenºª me the shieldº of thy salvation:º and thy right handº hath holden me up,ºª and thy gentleness¹² hath made me great.ºª 36 Thou hast enlargedºª my stepsº under² me, that my feetº did not² slip.ºª 37 I have pursuedºª mine enemies,ºª and overtakenºª them: neither² did I turn againºª till² they were consumed.ºª 38 I have woundedºª them that they were not² ableºª to rise:ºª they are fallenºª under² my feet.º 39 For thou hast girdedºª me with strengthº unto the battle:º thou hast subduedºª under² me those that rose upºª against me. 40 Thou hast also givenºª me the necksº of mine enemies;ºª that I might destroyºª them that hateºª me. 41 They cried,ºª but [there was] none² to saveºª [them: even] unto² the LORD,º but he answeredºª them not.² 42 Then did I beat¹ª them small² as the dustº beforeº² the wind:º I did cast them outºª as the dirtº in the streets.º 43 Thou hast deliveredºª me from the strivingsº² of the people;º [and] thou hast madeºª me the headº of the heathen:º a peopleº [whom] I have not² knownºª shall serveºª me. 44 As soon as they hearºº of me, they shall obeyºª me: the strangersºº shall submitºª themselves unto me. 45 The strangersºº shall fade away,ºª and be afraidºª out of² their close places.º 46 The LORDº liveth;º and blessedºª [be] my rock;º and let the Godº of my salvationº be exalted.ºª 47 [It is] Godº that avengethººª me, and subduethºª the peopleº under² me. 48 He deliverethºª me from mine enemies:ºª² yea,² thou liftest me upºª above² those that rise upºª against me: thou hast deliveredºª me from the violentº man.º² 49 Therefore²² will I give thanksºª unto thee, O LORD,º among the heathen,º and sing praisesºª unto thy name.º 50 Greatºª deliveranceº giveth he to his king;º and shewethºª mercyº to his anointed,º to David,º and to his seedº for¹ evermore.º²
