A pitiful complaint of Zion in prayer unto God.

1 ¶ Remember,ºª O LORD,º what² is come² upon us: consider,ºª and beholdºª² our reproach.º 2 Our inheritanceº is turnedºª to strangers,ºª our housesº to aliens.º 3 We are² orphansº and fatherless,ºº our mothersº [are] as widows.º 4 We have drunkenºª our waterº for money;º our woodº is soldººª unto us. 5 Our necksº [are] under² persecution:ºª we labour,ºª [and] have no rest.ºª² 6 We have givenºª the handº [to] the Egyptians,º [and to] the Assyrians,º to be satisfiedºª with bread.º 7 Our fathersº have sinned,ºª [and are] not;º and we² have borneºª their iniquities.º 8 Servantsº have ruled¹ª over² us: [there is] none² that doth deliverºª [us] out of their hand.º² 9 We gatºª our breadº with [the peril of] our livesº because¹ of²² the swordº of the wilderness.º 10 Our skinº was blackºª like an ovenº because¹ of²² the terribleº famine.º 11 They ravishedºª the womenº in Zion,º [and] the maidsº in the citiesº of Judah.º 12 Princesº are hanged upºª by their hand:º the facesº of eldersº were not² honoured.ºª 13 They tookºª the young menº to grind,º and the childrenº fellºª under the wood.º 14 The eldersº have ceasedºª from the gate,º² the young menº from their musick.º² 15 The joyº of our heartº is ceased;ºª our danceº is turnedºª into mourning.º 16 The crownº is fallenºª [from] our head:º woeº unto us, that² we have sinned!ºª 17 For² this² our heartº is² faint;º for² these² [things] our eyesº are dim.ºª 18 Because of² the mountainº of Zion,º which² is desolate,ºª the foxesº walkºª upon it. 19 Thou,² O LORD,º remainestºª for ever;º thy throneº from generationº to generation.º 20 Wherefore² dost thou forgetºª us for ever,º [and] forsakeºª us so longº time?º 21 Turnºª thou us unto² thee, O LORD,º and we shall be turned;ºª renewºª our daysº as of old.º 22 But²² thou hast utterly¹ª rejectedºª us; thou art very¹ wrothºª²² against² us.
