Parable of Two Eagles and a Vine

1 Now the word° of the LORD° came° to me saying°, 2 “Son° of man°, propound° a riddle° and speak° a aparable° to the house° of Israel°, 3 Isaying°, ‘Thus° says° the Lord° IIGOD°, “A great° aeagle° with bgreat° wings°, long° pinions° and a full° plumage° of many° colors° came° to cLebanon° and took° away the top° of the cedar°. 4 He plucked° off° the topmost° of its young° twigs° and brought° it to a land° of merchants°; he set° it in a city° of traders°. 5 He also took° some° of the seed° of the land° and planted° it in Iafertile° soil°. He IIplaced° [it] beside° abundant° waters°; he set° it [like] a bwillow°. 6 Then it sprouted° and became° a low°, spreading° vine° with its branches° turned° toward° him, but its roots° remained° under° it. So it became° a vine° and yielded° shoots° and sent° out branches°.

11 ¶ Moreover, the word° of the LORD° came° to me, saying°, 12 “Say° now° to the arebellious° house°, ‘Do you not bknow° what° these° things° [mean]?’ Say°, ‘Behold°, the cking° of Babylon° came° to Jerusalem°, took° its king° and princes° and brought° them to him in Babylon°. 13 He took° one of the royal° Iafamily° and made° a covenant° with him, IIputting° him under boath°. is shewed God's judgment upon Jerusalem for revolting from Babylon to Egypt.

11 ¶ Moreover the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me, saying,ºª 12 Sayºª now² to the rebelliousº house,º Knowºª ye not² what² these² [things mean]? tellºª [them], Behold,² the kingº of Babylonº is comeºª to Jerusalem,º and hath takenºª² the kingº thereof, and the princesº thereof, and ledºª them with² him to Babylon;º 13 And hath takenºª of the king'sº seed,º² and madeºª a covenantº with² him, and hath takenºª an oathº of him: he hath also takenºª the mightyº of the land:º 14 That the kingdomº might be² base,º that it might not² lift itself up,ºª [but] that by keepingºª² of his covenantº it might stand.ºª 15 But he rebelledºª against him in sendingºª his ambassadorsº into Egypt,º that they might giveºª him horsesº and muchº people.º Shall he prosper?ºª shall he escapeºª that doethºª such² [things]? or shall he breakºª the covenant,º and be delivered?ºª 16 [As] I² live,º saithºª the Lordº GOD,º surely²² in the placeº [where] the kingº [dwelleth] that made him king,ºª² whose²² oathº he despised,ºª and whose²² covenantº he brake,ºª [even] with² him in the midstº of Babylonº he shall die.ºª 17 Neither² shall Pharaohº with [his] mightyº armyº and greatº companyº makeºª for him in the war,º by casting upºª mounts,º and buildingºª forts,º to cut offºª manyº persons:º 18 Seeing he despisedºª the oathº by breakingºª the covenant,º when, lo,² he had givenºª his hand,º and hath doneºª all² these² [things], he shall not² escape.ºª 19 Therefore² thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º [As] I² live,º surely²² mine oathº that² he hath despised,ºª and my covenantº that² he hath broken,¹ª² even it will I recompenseºª upon his own head.º 20 And I will spreadºª my netº upon² him, and he shall be takenºª in my snare,º and I will bringºª him to Babylon,º and will pleadºª with² him there² for his trespassºª that² he hath trespassed¹² against me. 21 And all² his fugitivesº with all² his bandsº shall fallºª by the sword,º and they that remainºª shall be scatteredºª toward all² winds:º and ye shall knowºª that² I² the LORDº have spokenºª [it].
