Frogs over the Land

1 IThen the LORD° said° to Moses°, “Go° to Pharaoh° and say° to him, ‘Thus° says° the LORD°, “aLet° My people° go°, that they may serve° Me. 2 But if° you refuse° to let° [them] go°, behold°, I will smite° your whole° territory° with frogs°. 3 The Nile° will aswarm° with frogs°, which will come° up and go° into your house° and into your bedroom°° and on your bed°, and into the houses° of your servants° and on your people°, and into your ovens° and into your kneading° bowls°. 4 So the frogs° will come° up on you and your people° and all° your servants°.”’” 5 IThen the LORD° said° to Moses°, “Say° to Aaron°, ‘aStretch° out your hand° with your staff° over° the rivers°, over° the IIstreams° and over° the pools°, and make frogs° come° up on the land° of Egypt°.’” 6 So Aaron° stretched° out his hand° over° the waters° of Egypt°, and the Iafrogs° came° up and covered° the land° of Egypt°. 7 aThe Imagicians° did° IIthe same° with their secret° arts°, IIImaking frogs° come° up on the land° of Egypt°.

8 ¶ Then Pharaoh° acalled° for Moses° and Aaron° and said°, “bEntreat° the LORD° that He remove° the frogs° from me and from my people°; and cI will let° the people° go°, that they may sacrifice° to the LORD°.” 9 Moses° said° to Pharaoh°, “IThe honor° is yours to tell me: when° shall I entreat° for you and your servants° and your people°, that the frogs° be IIdestroyed° from you and your houses°, [that] they may be left° only° in the Nile°?”

10 ¶ Then he said°, “Tomorrow°.” So he said°, “[May it be] according to your word°, that you may know° that there° is ano° one° like the LORD° our God°. 11 The afrogs° will depart° from you and your houses° and your servants° and your people°; they will be left° only° in the Nile°.” 12 Then Moses° and Aaron° went° out from Pharaoh°, and aMoses° cried° to the LORD° concerning°° the frogs° which° He had Iinflicted° upon Pharaoh°. 13 The LORD° did° according to the word° of Moses°, and the frogs° died° out of the houses°, the courts°, and the fields°. 14 So they piled° them in heaps°, and the land° Ibecame° foul°. 15 But when Pharaoh° saw° that there was relief°, he Ihardened° his heart° and adid not listen° to them, as the LORD° had said°.

The Plague of Insects

16 ¶ Then the LORD° said° to Moses°, “Say° to Aaron°, ‘Stretch° out your staff° and strike° the dust° of the earth°, that it may become° Ignats° through all° the land° of Egypt°.’” 17 They did° so°; and Aaron° stretched° out his hand° with his staff°, and struck° the dust° of the earth°, and there were Ignats° on man° and beast°. All° the dust° of the earth° became° Iagnats° through all° the land° of Egypt°. 18 The Imagicians° tried° with their secret° arts° to bring° forth° IIgnats°, but athey could° not; so there were IIgnats° on man° and beast°. 19 Then the Imagicians° said° to Pharaoh°, “aThis° is the finger° of God°.” But Pharaoh’s° heart° was IIhardened°, and he did not listen° to them, as the LORD° had said°.

20 ¶ Now the LORD° said° to Moses°, “aRise° early° in the morning° and present° yourself° before° Pharaoh°, Ias bhe comes° out to the water°, and say° to him, ‘Thus° says° the LORD°, “cLet° My people° go°, that they may serve° Me. 21 For if° you do not let° My people° go°, behold°, I will send° swarms° of flies on you and on your servants° and on your people° and into your houses°; and the houses° of the Egyptians° will be full° of swarms° of flies, and also° the ground° on which° they [dwell]. 22 aBut on that day° I will set° apart° the land° of Goshen°, where° My people° are Iliving°, so that no° swarms° of flies will be there°, in order° that you may know° that IIbI, the LORD°, am in the midst° of the land°. 23 I will Iput° a division° between° My people° and your people°. Tomorrow° this° sign° will occur°.”’” 24 Then the LORD° did° so°. And there came° Igreat° swarms° of flies into the house° of Pharaoh° and the houses° of his servants° and the land° was alaid° waste° because°° of the swarms° of flies in all° the land° of Egypt°.

25 ¶ Pharaoh° acalled° for Moses° and Aaron° and said°, “bGo°, sacrifice° to your God° within the land°.” 26 But Moses° said°, “It is not right° to do° so°, for we will sacrifice° to the LORD° our God° Iwhat is aan abomination° to the Egyptians°. If° we sacrifice° Iwhat is an abomination° to the Egyptians° before their eyes°, will they not then stone° us? 27 We must go° a athree° days’° journey° into the wilderness° and sacrifice° to the LORD° our God° as He Icommands° us.” 28 Pharaoh° said°, “aI will let° you go°, that you may sacrifice° to the LORD° your God° in the wilderness°; only° you shall not go° very far° away. bMake° supplication° for me.” 29 Then Moses° said°, “Behold°, I am going° out from you, and I shall make° supplication° to the LORD° that the swarms° of flies may depart° from Pharaoh°, from his servants°, and from his people° tomorrow°; only° do not let Pharaoh° adeal° deceitfully° again° in not letting° the people° go° to sacrifice° to the LORD°.”

Pharaoh sueth Moses,

8 ¶ Then Pharaohº calledºª for Mosesº and Aaron,º and said,ºª Intreatºª² the LORD,º that he may take awayºª the frogsº from² me, and from my people;º² and I will let² the peopleº go,ºª that they may do sacrificeºª unto the LORD.º 9 And Mosesº saidºª unto Pharaoh,º Gloryºª over² me: whenº shall I intreatºª for thee, and for thy servants,º and for thy people,º to destroyºª the frogsº from² thee and thy houses,º² [that] they may remainºª in the riverº only?² 10 And he said,ºª To morrow.º And he said,ºª [Be it] according to thy word:º that² thou mayest knowºª that² [there is] none² like unto the LORDº our God.º 11 And the frogsº shall departºª from² thee, and from thy houses,º² and from thy servants,º² and from thy people;º² they shall remainºª in the riverº only.²

The dust is turned into lice, which the magicians could not do.

16 ¶ And the LORDº saidºª unto² Moses,º Sayºª unto² Aaron,º Stretch outºª² thy rod,º and smiteºª² the dustº of the land,º that it may become² liceº throughout all² the landº of Egypt.º 17 And they didºª so;² for Aaronº stretched outºª² his handº with his rod,º and smoteºª² the dustº of the earth,º and it became² liceº in man,º and in beast;º all² the dustº of the landº became² liceº throughout all² the landº of Egypt.º 18 And the magiciansº didºª so² with their enchantmentsº to bring forthºª² lice,º but they couldºª not:² so there were² liceº upon man,º and upon beast.º 19 Then the magiciansº saidºª unto² Pharaoh,º This² [is] the fingerº of God:º and Pharaoh'sº heartº was hardened,ºª and he hearkenedºª not² unto² them; as² the LORDº had said.ºª

The swarms of flies.

20 ¶ And the LORDº saidºª unto² Moses,º Rise up earlyºª in the morning,º and standºª beforeº Pharaoh;º lo,² he cometh forthºª to the water;º and sayºª unto² him, Thus² saithºª the LORD,º Let my peopleº go,ºª that they may serveºª me. 21 Else,² if² thou wilt not² let² my peopleº go,ºª behold,² I will sendºª² swarmsº [of flies] upon thee, and upon thy servants,º and upon thy people,º and into thy houses:º and the housesº of the Egyptiansº shall be fullºª of² swarmsº [of flies], and also² the groundº whereon²² they² [are]. 22 And I will severºª in that² dayº² the landº of Goshen,º in² which² my peopleº dwell,ºª that noº swarmsº [of flies] shall beºª there;² to the endº thou mayest knowºª that² I² [am] the LORDº in the midstº of the earth.º 23 And I will putºª a divisionº between² my peopleº and thy people:º to morrowº shall this² signº be.² 24 And the LORDº didºª so;² and there cameºª a grievousº swarmº [of flies] into the houseº of Pharaoh,º and [into] his servants'º houses,º and into all² the landº of Egypt:º the landº was corruptedºª by reason¹ of²² the swarmº [of flies].

Pharaoh inclineth to let the people go,

25 ¶ And Pharaohº calledºª forº Mosesº and for Aaron,º and said,ºª Go¹ª² ye, sacrificeºª to your Godº in the land.º 26 And Mosesº said,ºª It is not² meetºª so² to do;ºª for¹² we shall sacrificeºª the abominationº of the Egyptiansº to the LORDº our God:º lo,² shall we sacrificeºª² the abominationº of the Egyptiansº before their eyes,º and will they not² stoneºª us? 27 We will go¹ª² threeº days'º journeyº into the wilderness,º and sacrificeºª to the LORDº our God,º as² he shall commandºª² us. 28 And Pharaohº said,ºª I² will let you go,ºª that ye may sacrificeºª to the LORDº your Godº in the wilderness;º only² ye shall not² go¹ª² very¹ª far away:ºª intreatºª for² me.¹ 29 And Mosesº said,ºª Behold,² I² go outºª from²² thee, and I will intreatºª² the LORDº that the swarmsº [of flies] may departºª from Pharaoh,º² from his servants,º² and from his people,º² to morrow:º butº let not² Pharaohº deal deceitfullyºª any moreºª in notº letting² the peopleº goºª to sacrificeºª to the LORD.º 30 And Mosesº went outºª from²² Pharaoh,º and intreatedºª² the LORD.º 31 And the LORDº didºª according to the wordº of Moses;º and he removedºª the swarmsº [of flies] from Pharaoh,º² from his servants,º² and from his people;º² there remainedºª not² one.º
