NASB — Isaiah 31 — KJV

Help Not in Egypt but in God

  1 Woe° to those who go° down° to aEgypt° for help°
  [And] brely° on horses°,
  And trust° in chariots° because° they are many°
  And in horsemen° because° they are very° strong°,
  But they do not clook° to the dHoly° One° of Israel°, nor° seek° the LORD°!
  2 Yet He also° is awise° and will bbring° disaster°
  And does cnot retract° His words°,
  But will arise° against° the house° of devildoers°
  And against° the help° of the eworkers° of iniquity°.
  3 Now the Egyptians° are amen° and not God°,
  And their bhorses° are flesh° and not spirit°;
  So the LORD° will cstretch° out His hand°,
  And dhe who helps° will stumble°
  And he who is helped° will fall°,
  And all° of them will come° to an end° together°.

The prophet sheweth the cursed folly in trusting to Egypt, and forsaking of God.

1 ¶ Woeº to them that go downºª to Egyptº for help;º and stayºª on² horses,º and trustºª in² chariots,º because² [they are] many;º and in² horsemen,º because² they are very¹ strong;ºª² but they lookºª not² unto² the Holy Oneº of Israel,º neither² seekºª the LORD!º 2 Yet he² also² [is] wise,º and will bringºª evil,º and will not² call backºª his words:º but will ariseºª against² the houseº of the evildoers,ºª and against² the helpº of them that workºª iniquity.º 3 Now the Egyptiansº [are] men,º and not² God;º and their horsesº flesh,º and not² spirit.º When the LORDº shall stretch outºª his hand,º both he that helpethºª shall fall,ºª and he that is holpenºª shall fall down,ºª and they all² shall failºª together.º 4 For² thus² hath the LORDº spokenºª unto² me, Like as² the lionº and the young lionº roaringºª on² his prey,º when² a multitudeº of shepherdsºª is called forthºª against² him, [he] will not² be afraidºª of their voice,º² nor² abaseºª himself for the noiseº² of them: so² shall the LORDº of hostsº come downºª to fightºª for² mountº Zion,º and for² the hillº thereof. 5 As birdsº flying,ºª so² will the LORDº of hostsº defendºª² Jerusalem;º defendingºª also he will deliverºª [it; and] passing overºª he will preserveºª it.
