The LORD Implored to Avenge His People.

  1 O LORD°, God° of Iavengeance°,
  God° of Ivengeance°, IIbshine° forth°!
  2 aRise° up, O bJudge° of the earth°,
  Render° recompense° cto the proud°.
  3 How° long°° shall the wicked°, O LORD°,
  How° long°° shall the awicked° exult°?
  4 They pour° forth° [words], they aspeak° arrogantly°;
  All° who do° wickedness° bvaunt° themselves.
  5 They acrush° Your people°, O LORD°,
  And bafflict° Your heritage°.
  6 They aslay° the widow° and the Istranger°
  And murder° the orphans°.
  7 aThey have said°, “IThe LORD° does not see°,
  Nor° does the God° of Jacob° pay° heed°.”

The prophet, calling for justice, complaineth of tyranny and impiety.

He teacheth God's providence.

He sheweth the blessedness of affliction.

12 Blessedº [is] the manº whom² thou chastenest,ºª O LORD,º and teachestºª him out of thy law;º² 13 That thou mayest give him restºª from the daysº² of adversity,º until² the pitº be diggedºª for the wicked.º 14 For² the LORDº will not² cast offºª his people,º neither² will he forsakeºª his inheritance.º 15 But² judgmentº shall returnºª unto² righteousness:º and all² the uprightº in heartº shall followº it.

God is the defender of the afflicted.

16 Who² will rise upºª for me against² the evildoers?ºª [or] who² will stand upºª for me against² the workersºª of iniquity?º 17 Unlessº the LORDº [had been] my help,º my soulº had almostº dweltºª in silence.º 18 When² I said,ºª My footº slippeth;ºª thy mercy,º O LORD,º held me up.ºª 19 In the multitudeº of my thoughtsº withinº me thy comfortsº delightºª my soul.º 20 Shall the throneº of iniquityº have fellowshipºª with thee, which framethºª mischiefº by² a law?º 21 They gather themselves togetherºª against² the soulº of the righteous,º and condemnºª the innocentº blood.º 22 But the LORDº is² my defence;º and my Godº [is] the rockº of my refuge.º 23 And he shall bringºª upon² them² their own iniquity,º and shall cut them offºª in their own wickedness;º [yea], the LORDº our Godº shall cut them off.ºª
