1 “You shall therefore alove° the LORD° your God°, and always°° bkeep° His charge°, His statutes°, His ordinances°, and His commandments°. 2 Know° this day° athat I [am] not [speaking] with your sons° who° have not known° and who° have not seen° the Idiscipline° of the LORD° your God°—His greatness°, His mighty° hand° and His outstretched° arm°, 3 and aHis signs° and His works° which° He did° in the midst° of Egypt° to Pharaoh° the king° of Egypt° and to all° his land°; 4 and what° He did° to Egypt’s° army°, to its horses° and its chariots°, awhen° He made the water° of the IRed°° Sea° to IIengulf° them while they were pursuing° you, and the LORD° IIIcompletely°°° destroyed° them; 5 and what° He did° to you in the wilderness° until° you came° to this° place°; 6 and awhat° He did° to Dathan° and Abiram°, the sons° of Eliab°, the son° of Reuben°, when the earth° opened° its mouth° and swallowed° them, their households°, their tents°, and bevery° living° thing° that Ifollowed° them, among° all° Israel°7 but your own eyes° have seen° all° the great° work° of the LORD° which° He did°.

8 ¶ “You shall therefore keep° every° commandment° which° I am commanding° you today°, aso° that you may be strong° and go° in and possess° the land° into which° you are about to cross° to possess° it; 9 aso that you may prolong° [your] days° on the land° which° the LORD° swore° to your fathers° to give° to them and to their Idescendants°, ba land° flowing° with milk° and honey°. 10 For the land°, into which° you are entering° to possess° it, is not like the land° of Egypt° from which° you came°, where° you used to sow° your seed° and water° it with your Ifoot° like a vegetable° garden°. 11 But athe land° into which° you are about to cross° to possess° it, a land° of hills° and valleys°, drinks° water° from the rain° of heaven°, 12 a land° for which° the LORD° your God° cares°; athe eyes° of the LORD° your God° are always° on it, from the Ibeginning° even to the end° of the year°.

18 ¶ “aYou shall therefore Iimpress° these° words° of mine on your heart° and on your soul°; and you shall bind° them as a sign° on your hand°, and they shall be as IIfrontals° IIIon your forehead°°. 19 aYou shall teach° them to your sons°, talking° of them when you sit° in your house° and when you walk° along the road° and when you lie° down° and when you rise° up. 20 aYou shall write° them on the doorposts° of your house° and on your gates°, 21 so° that ayour days° and the days° of your sons° may be multiplied° on the land° which° the LORD° swore° to your fathers° to give° them, as Iblong° as the heavens° [remain] above° the earth°. 22 For if° you are acareful° to keep° all° this° commandment° which° I am commanding° you to do°, bto love° the LORD° your God°, to walk° in all° His ways° and chold° fast° to Him, 23 then the LORD° will adrive° out all° these° nations° from before°° you, and you will bdispossess° nations° greater° and mightier° than° you. 24 aEvery° place° on which° the sole° of your foot° treads° shall be yours; byour border° will be from the wilderness° to Lebanon°, [and] from the river°, the river° Euphrates°, as far° as Ithe western° sea°. 25 aNo° man° will be able to stand° before° you; the LORD° your God° will lay° the dread° of you and the fear° of you on all° the land° on which° you set° foot°, as He has spoken° to you.

An exhortation to obedience,

10 ¶ For² the land,º whither²² thou² goest inºª to possessºª it, [is] not² as the landº of Egypt,º from whence²²² ye came out,ºª where² thou sowedstºª² thy seed,º and wateredstºª [it] with thy foot,º as a gardenº of herbs:º 11 But the land,º whither²² ye² goºª to possessºª it, [is] a landº of hillsº and valleys,º [and] drinkethºª waterº of the rainº of heaven:º 12 A landº which² the LORDº thy Godº careth² for:¹ª the eyesº of the LORDº thy Godº [are] alwaysº upon it, from the beginningº² of the yearº even unto² the endº of the year.º

An exhortation to obedience by threatenings.

16 Take heedºª to yourselves, that² your heartº be not deceived,ºª and ye turn aside,ºª and serveºª otherº gods,º and worshipºª them; 17 And [then] the LORD'Sº wrathº be kindledºª against you, and he shut upºª² the heaven,º that there be² no² rain,º and that the landº yieldºª not²² her fruit;º and [lest] ye perishºª quicklyº from off²² the goodº landº which² the LORDº givethºª you.

18 ¶ Therefore shall ye lay upºª² these² my wordsº in² your heartº and in² your soul,º and bindºª them for a signº upon² your hand,º that they may be² as frontletsº between² your eyes.º 19 And ye shall teachºª them² your children,º speakingºª of them when thou sittestºª in thine house,º and when thou walkest¹ª² by the way,º when thou liest¹ª down,² and when thou risest up.ºª 20 And thou shalt writeºª them upon² the door postsº of thine house,º and upon thy gates:º 21 That² your daysº may be multiplied,ºª and the daysº of your children,º in² the landº which² the LORDº swareºª unto your fathersº to giveºª them, as the daysº of heavenº upon² the earth.º
